The Rest Is Still Unwritten
Q&A taken from the Guardian magazine, today’s edition, Part Two
1. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
A daily dose of Chocolate Buttons, ideally eaten from a family-sized bag with no intention of sharing… and, of course, a bottle of Taittinger… it has just the right amount of fizz.
2. To whom would you most like to say sorry and why?
My children, for the times my anxiety became theirs.
3. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“I love you.” I’ve been telling my friends and family since the pandemic, and I text it to my children every night before they go to bed.
4. What has been your biggest disappointment?
That I spent so many years believing achievement would eventually make me feel like enough.
5. How often do you have sex?
Whenever I want to.
6. What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Having everyone I love in the same place… ideally somewhere sunny with excellent room service.
7. Would you rather have more sex, money or fame?
Probably money, which I would share more readily than my Chocolate Buttons… I’ve never particularly wanted fame, and No. 5 is plenty.
8. How would you like to be remembered?
She was funny, unapologetically herself and made people feel seen.
9. What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
That I was always enough. It would have been useful to know this forty years ago.
10. Tell us a secret.
I often wonder how different my life might have been if I’d followed up on the two occasions I was scouted to model in London, rather than assuming they were just perverts…perhaps I wasn’t hungry enough for fame… or perhaps I had excellent instincts… I’ll never know.
