Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how White Peacock Press collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit the Plus One website.

1. Who we are

This website is operated by White Peacock Press on behalf of Victoria Maitland and the novel Plus One.

If you have any questions about how your personal information is used, please contact:

White Peacock Press
Email: info@victoriamaitland.com

2. Information we collect

We may collect personal information when you use this website, including:

  • your name;

  • your email address;

  • information you provide when applying to become an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) reader;

  • information you provide when contacting us; and

  • technical information about your visit to the website, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited and how you interact with the website.

Some information is collected directly from you. Other information may be collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.

3. How we use your information

We may use your personal information to:

  • process and manage ARC applications;

  • contact ARC applicants about their application and, where appropriate, the Plus One ARC programme;

  • respond to enquiries;

  • administer and improve the website;

  • understand how visitors use the website;

  • measure the effectiveness of our marketing and advertising;

  • improve our advertising and audience targeting, where permitted; and

  • maintain the security and functionality of the website.

We will not sell your personal information.

4. ARC applications

If you provide your email address through the ARC application form, we will use it to contact you in relation to your application and, if you are selected, to administer your participation in the Plus One ARC programme.

ARC applicants may receive information relating to the book, review copies, review requests, publication information and other communications reasonably connected with the ARC programme.

Submitting an ARC application does not automatically mean that you will be selected to receive an ARC.

If you no longer wish to participate in the ARC programme, you can contact us using the email address above.

Important: if you're going to use the ARC emails for broader marketing later, I'd change this section and make that a separate opt-in. I wouldn't quietly turn an ARC application into a general marketing list.

5. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website.

Google Analytics may collect information such as:

  • pages visited;

  • how long visitors spend on the website;

  • how visitors arrived at the website;

  • approximate location;

  • device and browser information; and

  • interactions with the website.

We use this information to understand website performance and improve the content and user experience.

Google may process information collected through Google Analytics in accordance with its own privacy policies.

You can find more information about how Google handles data through Google's privacy resources.

6. Meta advertising

We may use advertising services provided by Meta, including Facebook and Instagram advertising.

These technologies may allow us to understand how people interact with our website and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

Where applicable, Meta may collect or receive information about your activity on our website through cookies, pixels or similar technologies.

This information may be used for purposes including measuring advertising performance and helping us show relevant advertising.

Where required, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential advertising cookies or similar technologies.

7. Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies.

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. Others may be used for analytics, advertising or other purposes.

Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.

You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie settings available on this website.

For more information, please see our Cookie Policy.

8. Third-party services

We use third-party services to operate, analyse and promote the website. These may include:

  • Squarespace, which hosts the website;

  • Google Analytics, for website analytics; and

  • Meta, for Facebook and Instagram advertising.

These organisations may process personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies and terms.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that third-party providers process personal information appropriately and only for legitimate purposes connected with their services.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or for as long as we are legally required to retain it.

ARC applicant information will be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the ARC programme and deal with related enquiries and records.

Analytics and advertising information may be retained in accordance with the retention periods set by the relevant third-party services.

10. Your rights

Under applicable UK data protection law, you may have rights including the right to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct inaccurate information;

  • ask us to delete your personal information in certain circumstances;

  • ask us to restrict how we use your information in certain circumstances;

  • object to certain processing; and

  • withdraw consent where we rely on consent as our legal basis for processing.

To exercise your rights, please contact:

info@victoriamaitland.com

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your personal information has been handled unlawfully or your data protection rights have not been respected.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the website, our use of personal information or applicable legal requirements.

The latest version will always be available on this page.
